A semester abroad? No problem at HWG LU!

Mobility is a matter of course for you? You would like to go abroad during your studies?

That's a good thing, because a stay abroad is practically part of a graduate's basic equipment today. The Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences offers its students the best conditions for spending some time abroad during their studies. After all, internationalization is a fundamental component of our university strategy. We can look back on more than 30 years of international activities, from which an extensive network has grown. Today, this network includes more than 150 partner universities in 60 countries worldwide - including neighboring countries, but also more exotic destinations, so there is certainly something for everyone.

Good relations worldwide: What do our students get out of it?

Cooperation with well over 150 international partner universities enables students - and incidentally also faculty and staff - to become involved in international networks that provide important impetus for study, teaching, research and individual development.

During a stay abroad during your studies, you can acquire or deepen your language and subject knowledge, and develop your personal potential through exposure to a different culture. Spending one or even several semesters abroad is also good preparation for your future job. After all, it is no longer uncommon after graduation to move the center of your work and life to a place outside Germany or even Europe, at least for a while.

Master's student Sabrina Birkhofer up close and personal with a koala

The semester abroad at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia was a unique experience for me. Especially the possibility to complete a double degree within the framework of the study abroad and thus to be able to achieve an international master's degree in addition to the university degree from Ludwigshafen in the regular 4 semesters of the master's program made the semester in Australia particularly attractive. The time 'Down Under' was unforgettable and a unique chance not only to get to know the country and the Australian culture, but also to make many new contacts.

Sabrina Birkhofer - Double Degree International Marketing Management (HWG LU) / Master of International Business (USC Australia) – After completing her bachelor's degree at HWG LU, Sabrina Birkhofer decided to do her master's degree in Ludwigshafen as well - and did so immediately as a double degree by spending a semester abroad at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia.
Ugur D. during his semester abroad

It was clear to me from the start that I wanted to spend two semesters abroad. The semester abroad in Riga strengthened my desire even more. In the middle of my first semester abroad, I was already preparing for the second. All in all, it was a great time that you never forget! I saw a lot of the world and met many people during these months!

Ugur D. - B.A Business Taxation and Auditing – spent two semesters abroad at once: studying abroad in Riga, Latvia, followed by a six-month stay in Zagreb, Croatia (more on Instagram at mistr_diesel).

Parallel to my semester abroad, I had also applied for an internship abroad in Sweden. After I got an acceptance for both Beijing and the internship, I decided to take both opportunities. During my time in China, I really took advantage of every minute to see more of the country. One of the best moments for me was camping on the Great Wall of China. It was something totally special that I probably won't experience again like that.

Katrin Wieder - Master's Degree in International Marketing Management – takes every opportunity to spend time abroad. She completed three summer schools abroad as well as an internship in Sweden lasting several months before she ended up at Beijing Normal University in Beijing for a semester.
